Practical Energy Solutions, LLC (PES) employs full time monitoring and analysis techniques to analyze your building's performance. By monitoring key building systems, such as HVAC, lighting, office equipment, and other energy users, and comparing them to building occupancy patterns, we can find ways to save you energy, while also providing improved working conditions for the building occupants.

Energy Audits

Practical Energy Solutions will perform an energy audit for your facility, which includes evaluation of your past 2 years of energy consumption, rate structure analysis, a primary energy using systems inventory, and a control and building operation assessment. From this initial audit, we can evaluate whether there is a benefit to proceeding with additional services, and we can tailor an energy services contract to focus on the greatest energy savings opportunities based on your equipment, consumption patterns, and rate structure.

KW and KWh Analysis

We track real time electricity use to pinpoint where and when you are wasting electricity. See below for a typical graph that is generated showing your use patterns.

Temperature Performance Analysis

PES graphs and analyzes temperatures in individual rooms throughout the building to ensure proper operation of HVAC controls and equipment.

Indoor Air Quality

We monitor indoor air quality in your facility to assure conformance with national standards and guidelines to optimize the working environment for your building occupants.

Light Levels

PES compares current indoor light levels with national standards to ensure that building occupants have optimal light levels for the specific tasks being performed in each work area in the building.

Agreements for Services

We can tailor our services and contract to your specific needs. Shown below is a step by step description of the process of using Practical Energy Solutions for your energy management needs.

Seven Easy Steps To Energy Conservation!

1. Provide Practical Energy Solutions (PES) with copies of your monthly electricity bills for the past 24 months. We will perform a "walk-through" energy audit to evaluate your building systems, will provide a detailed analysis of your energy bills, and we'll provide an ENERGY STAR rating for the facility. An EPA ENERGY STARTM rating is a good indicator of the energy efficiency of your facility compared with similar use buildings in similar climate. Ratings below 50 indicate that there are significant savings to be found using our system.

2. After the initial assessment, enter into an energy management agreement with PES. This agreement will specify the percentage of the cost savings that is paid to Practical Energy Solutions during the contract term (typically two years), the balance of which is retained by you. This ensures that you receive immediate positive cash flow from our relationship.

3. We will meet with key operations and maintenance people to establish building use and occupancy patterns, and to get familiar with systems and controls that are in use, and will conduct a more detailed review of utility invoices for the previous 2 or 3 years to establish historical baseline usage and trends of energy use.

4. PES provides full time monitoring of key systems, 24 hours per day, for random 7 day periods, to assess current weekly energy use patterns. This will include analysis of HVAC, lighting, and office equipment systems, and is typically performed a few times at the start of the contract, and then once every one or two months thereafter, and any time energy usage starts to trend upwards after initial savings are found.

5. After review and analysis of the data, we will provide recommendations for adjustments to key systems to optimize energy use. This will include strategies to reduce your overall demand as well as strategies to reduce peak demand charges. We will assist your maintenance staff in implementation of our recommendations.

6. Provide PES with a copy of your electric bill each month, and we will track reductions in your energy use as compared to the baseline, and submit monthly invoices based on a percentage of the cost savings.

7. At contract end, you maintain the changes implemented, and retain all of the future monthly savings. Upon request, we will provide ongoing energy management services on a time and materials basis to continue to track your energy use, or can quote a firm price for a twice per year “checkup” to assure that savings continue.

Other services are also available, including consulting related to LEED certification, and as an ENERGY PARTNER with a registered professional engineer on staff, we can apply for your building to receive the ENERGY STAR label for energy efficiency. We also provide a through benchmarking service to evaluate your building's operations to determine whether it is a good candidate for our services.
